Nigerians have said Bankole Wellington, Banky W knows nothing about politics, in their reactions to the singer’s response to the N57million payment allegation he received from President Muhammadu Buhari. The insults began to roll in after Banky W shared his perspective on the sack of CJN Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari.

Then the situation escalated after a lady on Twitter accused him of receiving N57 million bribe from Buhari, a claim which he vehemently denied with a threat to sue his accuser. See how Nigerians have reacted to Banky W so far:

One said “See how Davido is speaking up? Falz too? But Banky W wants us to vote him into power for being the cool kid.”

Another: “Where is the Proof that the CJN commited a crime. Now you understand the importance of being innocent until proven guilty, you understand the need for due process? No Mr Banky, if anyone says you collected money, I believe the person.”

Another user said: “Banky W is so naive politically. He knows nothing whatsoever about politics, and each attempt at having a political opinion has seen him sounding ridiculous . Maybe his only motivation is if Desmond Elliot can do it, I too can.”

This is coming after singer and House of Reps aspirant, Banky W and wife started a war on Twitter on a certain Miriam Shehu who accused the couple of collecting bride to campaign for Buhari. It all started when the Twitter user fired at Banky W for pretending to be non-partisan and accused him and his wife of collecting N57 million to campaign for President Buhari. She claimed that the couple travelled to Abuja sometime in December to sign the alleged contract. According to her, Banky converted his music label to a PR firm and got a contract from one Abubakar Ahmed to promote Buhari for the up-coming elections. She questioned the singer why he has failed to do his work despite being paid handsomely for it. Miriam went further to state that she has a photo of the couple boarding the flight in which they flew business class, paid for by the facilitator of the alleged contract. A furious Banky immediately responded to the allegations and denied ever signing such a contract. He boldly stated that he has never collected any money to do anything for the president and all Miriam said and lies and all libelous claims to defame his good name.

Banky also threatened that the matter will be tendered in the court of law and if the accuser refuses to show evidence to back up the claims, they will be going to jail for trying to spoil his name. Banky’s wife, Adesua refused to keep mum. She, who was also accused with her husband responded in a series of tweet, also denying the grave allegation. She stated that herself and her hubby were in Abuja in December for and event with EU and did not sign any such contract as claimed by Miriam.

”I have read your honest feedback& suggestions& I sincerely apologize for addressing the youth as “Children” I did not mean to be insensitive with this, it was borne out of the magnitude of destruction&looting of businesses I witnessed when I went on a tour of my constituency

I saw women crying and my constituent members distraught as a result of the damages inflicted on their source of livelihood. I was moved by this while giving my submission on the floor of the House.

I allowed my emotions get the better of me and for this I apologize to everyone my earlier statements may have hurt.

Please, understand that even the best of us make mistakes. This is why, moving forward, I ask that we all try to engage constructively on the issues that affect all of us. I promise to do the same.

The pain that I feel for my constituents, the calls for assistance that I continue to get, and the need to mitigate against further destruction and violence will continue to drive my engagements and my work.

I thank you all for expressing your views, and in the future, I promise to be more conscious and aware. Together, we will build a better Nigeria. End.”
