As the race for the Premier League gets hotter and tougher, Manchester City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad stadium in what may be a potential title decider. Manchester City leap frogged Liverpool to stay top of the Premier League standings after securing a 2 nil victory over Everton in the mid week fixture. The Citizens have a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s wards.

Chelsea take on Manchester City on Sunday afternoon looking to do the Premier League double over the current champions – and Maurizio Sarri has a master plan to achieve it. At Stamford Bridge in December the Blues put in their best performance of the season to seal a 2-0 victory with goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz sealing the win.

On that day, Eden Hazard played in the false nine role, while Raheem Sterling played in a similar position for the visitors and Pep Guardiola’s side only had four shots on target throughout the entire encounter. It is unlikely that either of them will be asked to play in that position once again, with Gonzalo Higuain having signed for the Blues and Sergio Aguero fit and firing for City.

The Blues had a lot of success against City in the first Premier League encounter between the two sitting a deeper deeper and springing counter attacks on City.  Sarri believes the way to be victorious over City once again is to beat their high press and do so with pace.

“I think we were lucky [in the 2-0 win], because we scored in a very difficult moment of the match, maybe that we deserved to win in the second half,” Sarri said. “But I think we were lucky in the first half, because we scored in a difficult moment.”

“I think in that match we defended really very well, because they had only three goal opportunities, no more. It’s not easy against Manchester City to give them only three, four opportunities. At home, I think they’ve scored 43 goals in 15 matches. More than three on average. It’s very difficult. We need to defend really very well.”

“We need to be very fast when we are able to recover the ball, because the first lost ball they are able to press really, really very well so it’s very difficult to exit that situation. If we will be able to do it, I think we can find spaces. But it is very difficult.”

EPL: Premier League introduces new rules on penalty kick, substitution, handball, cards for managers, others Premier League Rebrands DesignStudio

The International Football Association Board, IFAB, has approved new rules and changes ahead of the 2019/2020 season.

The 2018/19 Premier League campaign finished last Sunday with Manchester City claiming the title.

The new rules affect Freekicks, substitution, handball, dropball, and cards for managers.

It is already established that video assistant referee, VAR, will be used in the league next season.

These alterations will have a huge impact on the Premier League sides.

The IFAB has clarified the situation in regards to handball decisions ahead of next season

Handballs:

The new rule state that goals will be disallowed if the ball accidentally strikes a player’s hand in the build-up.

A free-kick will also be awarded outside of the penalty box if a player has accidentally created an advantage by handling the ball.

The IFAB has also had its say on drop balls and is aiming to get rid of ‘manufactured’ restarts.

IFAB explained that, “The current dropped ball procedure often leads to a ‘manufactured’ restart which is ‘exploited’ unfairly or an aggressive confrontation.

“Returning the ball to the team that last played it restores what was ‘lost’ when play was stopped, except in the penalty area where it is simpler to return the ball to the goalkeeper.

“To prevent that team gaining an unfair advantage, all players of both teams, except the player receiving the ball, must be at least 4m (4.5 yds) away.”

Substitution:

Another rule which has been introduced for next season sees some major alterations to substitutions.

Now players will have to leave the pitch at the nearest point rather than walk slowly across the field late in games and waste time.

Penalty kicks

This has certainly been overdue with goalkeepers taking advantage on penalty situations for a while now.

But from next season they will have to have one foot on the line.

Not only must keepers be touching the line, they will not be allowed to touch the goalposts before the ball is kicked.

Cards for coaches.

Referees will now be able to show them a yellow card or a red card in the same way they do with players on the pitch.

Chelsea have finally decided to give star player, Eden Hazard’s number 10 shirt to forward, Callum Hudson-Odoi, when the Belgian finally leaves Stamford Bridge this summer’s transfer window.

Hazard looks likely to leave for Spain, after he confirmed in an interview after the final Premier League game of the season, that he, “has made his decision,” regarding his future.

Real Madrid are yet to agree a fee with the Blues for the 28-year-old as they haggle over a price between €100million and €130m.

However, Daily Mail is now reporting that Chelsea board wants Hudson-Odoi to wear Hazard’s No. 10 shirt in a bid to persuade the England youngster to sign a new contract extension.

The report claimed that Chelsea hierarchy will hold talks with the player’s representatives before the end of the month.

Hudson-Odoi, who currently has less than a year in his current deal at Chelsea, has also drawn interests from Bayern Munich, PSG and Juventus in recent months.
