After his entertaining career as an outspoken pundit, Paul Scholes is under no illusions about what he is letting himself in for as he takes his first steps into management. ‘I’ve left myself wide open,’ the new Oldham Athletic manager acknowledged with a smile. ‘I’ve been quite critical.’ One Portuguese recipient of a Scholes verbal volley (or seven), may well take a keen interest in goings-on at Boundary Park.Paul Scholes has made his long awaited move into management with Oldham Athletic Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9680198 6691505 image m 74 1549905015411

‘I think he’ll be watching results,’ the 44-year-old said of former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. ‘Whether he’ll be at Oldham watching games I’m not too sure.’ But this is not Old Trafford, where he won 20 major trophies. Money is tight at the League Two club and on Friday following a row over payment, the main stand was without hot water after the gas meter was ripped out.Scholes held his first press conference as Latics manager on Monday afternoon Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9673188 6691505 Paul Scholes held his first press conference as Oldham Athletic a 48 1549895620968

There are other issues. Sources tell of interference in team selection from owner, Moroccan agent Abdallah Lemsagam, with three players understood to have previously been barred from the starting XI. Again, Scholes appeared to be ahead of the game. ‘As the owner, he is going to be interested in his team,’ he said. ‘But he won’t be picking the team, I think we are quite clear on that and I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t confident on that. Not confident — sure of it.’The new boss was presented with a Latics shirt with his name on it at his unveiling Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9673382 6691505 image a 47 1549895288273

The reality of the task is not lost on him. ‘It might be the biggest mistake of my life, I don’t know,’ he said. ‘Or it might be the best thing I ever did. There’s an uncertainty there, I don’t doubt that.’  Should Scholes encounter trouble, he will not be short of people to call, including Sir Alex Ferguson. ‘I’m sure the gaffer is on the other end of the phone,’ he said. ‘He’ll want me to do well and if I need any help, I’ll be ringing him.’Scholes will use his Manchester United contacts as he takes his first steps into management Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9678150 6691505 image a 67 1549902922127

However, if things do not go according to plan, he may wish to switch the phone off. ‘I have left myself open, living in the area, to a bit of stick from Oldham fans which I am sure will happen at some point,’ he said. ‘I’ve got family, mates who come here. My dad was a massive Oldham fan, there are a lot of people to please and I will have to block a few numbers on my phone if we get beat.’Image result for paul scholes sky sports getty images Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career gettyimages 143958077

You would imagine it will not take much to please them. Since becoming founder Premier League members in 1992, Oldham have had a long and miserable slide to the bottom tier. It is a far cry from the glory years under Joe Royle, when Scholes would stand in a packed Chaddy End with his father and when United edged two FA Cup semi-final replays in four years.Scholes met fans and posed for pictures outside Boundary Park ahead of his press conference Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9671944 6691505 image a 20 1549892589270

‘It was a bit difficult at times because I was an apprentice at United,’ said Scholes. ‘For the semi-final at Maine Road, I was in the Oldham end.’ He can reel off the names of Royle’s side: ‘Ritchie, Bunn, Henry, Milligan, Irwin, Barrett, Warhurst, I could name them all.’ As an Oldham resident, he knows what makes the town tick and said: ‘It was a town for a good while in the 90s and it’d be nice to get that back.’The former England international midfielder has agreed an 18-month contract at the club Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9672468 6691505 image a 21 1549893515555

A bounce like that enjoyed by former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United would not go amiss, starting with Tuesday’s clash with Yeovil. ‘Ole’s just a nice man,’ Scholes said. ‘He’s got a great way about him, players will want to play for him and that’s what I want here.’ Niceties aside, does Scholes have a Fergie- hairdryer in his locker? ‘We’ll have to wait and see, won’t we?’ he said.Image result for paul scholes sky sports getty images Paul Scholes reveals why he is worried about Jose Mourinho as he begins his managerial career 9ee5e805c555177a93a6a0a2517ccddb

He added: ‘If we are losing I am sure people will be popping up. They can say what they want. I have never understood why players and managers listen to pundits. They are giving an opinion and get paid for doing so. If anyone wants to have a dig at me, I won’t be taking any notice.’

AFCON 2019: Tunisia coach sends message to Nigeria’s Super Eagles Super Eagles South Africa Nov2018 1280x720 1024x576 1

Head coach of Tunisia, Alain Giresse has warned Nigeria’s Super Eagles that his side will do everything possible to win tonight’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, third-place fixture at the Al Salam Cairo Stadium.

The Carthage Eagles head to the game after losing 1-0 to Senegal in the semi-final encounter last weekend, while Nigeria were defeated 2-1 by Algeria.

Addressing reporters at a pre-match press conference, Giresse expressed the disappointment of his side to the defeat from Senegal but said he has talked to his players to concentrate and win the third-place bronze match against Nigeria.

The 67-year-old said: “We will do everything to beat Nigeria to win the third-place match.

“It was difficult for us after the loss to Senegal because we desired to play in the AFCON final. I have been able to talk to my players on the need for them to forget about the defeat and concentrate on the game with Nigeria

“Nigeria also needs the game as well as we do but we are going to do everything possible to ensure that we win the game. We are expecting a tough and strong Nigerian side.”

The kick-off time for the match is 8pm.

Eden Hazard jersey number review c0f89 15591648524266 500 1 e1562848165888

Eden Hazard has trained as a Real Madrid player for the first time, as reports from Spain say the Belgian is occupying the number 23 shirt for the time being.
The 28-year-old signed from Chelsea for £90m last month, and officially joined the club last week, before joining up with his new team-mates for the first time when they returned to training on Monday.
While we won’t learn much from the early training sessions, with Real’s friendly with Bayern Munich next weekend the first real opportunity we have to get a good look at Zidane’s new side, Spanish press have been all over the first session of the new era.
Focusing on Hazard, AS report that he has been training with the number 23, although they speculate that this may just be until Mariano Diaz moves on, in which case he is likely to inherit the number seven shirt which was made iconic by Raul and Cristiano Ronaldo.
They also report on a friendly reunion between Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, and that early medical testing was successful.

Meanwhile, Marca report that Gareth Bale was present and correct despite rumours he could be leaving the club in the days and weeks to come, adding that with Hazard, Rodrygo and Luka Jovic all in the building, the Welshman might find his game-time limited.
He is expected to travel with the team as normal until his future is sorted out.
