Solskjaer was forced into a change in first-half injury time when Lingard, who had gone down minutes earlier with what appeared to be a muscle tweak, was replaced by Alexis Sanchez. A second change followed before the start of the second period, with Martial who looked to have strained a hamstring shortly before the end of the first half replaced by Juan Mata.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keeping his fingers crossed the pair don’t face extended spells out. He said: “Jesse and Anthony give us something, let’s hope they’re not too serious. They’re muscle injuries, so we’ll just have to wait a couple of days.

“They [PSG] had the momentum after the first goal and controlled the game. You could see that we hadn’t played at this level for a while and we will have to learn. “It was an experience that can go either way, it’s not going to be a season defining one, it’s one we have to learn from.”

Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe left Manchester United with a mountain to climb as Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg and Paul Pogba was sent off. PSG struck twice in seven minutes before the hour, Kimpembe volleying home a corner before Mbappe finished a low cross from ex-United player Angel Di Maria to condemn United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to his first defeat in charge.

Things became even worse for the home side with the seconds ticking away as Pogba was dismissed after a foul on Dani Alves, meaning he misses the second leg in Paris. United had been quickly out of the blocks, Marcus Rashford’s attempt to play Jesse Lingard through thwarted by an interception, but the first real threat came from Di Maria, whose curling shot after six minutes went wide of David De Gea’s far post.

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I came across this during my hunt for something relating to this.

Ronaldo emerges highest-paid footballer ahead of Messi, Neymar ronaldo

Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been named the highest-paid footballer on the planet, in the annual Forbes list published on Friday.

Ronaldo is only second on the list of the best-paid athletes for 2020 behind tennis superstar, Roger Federer.

Federer earned $106.3m (£86.3m) in the last 12 months including $100m (£81.2m) in endorsements.

All that money saw him move up four places and become the first tennis player to top the list.

Ronaldo (£85.3m), Lionel Messi (£84.5m), Neymar Jr. (£77.6m) and American basketball player LeBron James (£71.6m) complete the top five.

“The coronavirus pandemic triggered salary cuts for football stars Messi and Ronaldo, clearing the way for a tennis player to rank as the world’s highest-paid athlete for the first time.

“Roger Federer is the perfect pitchman for companies, resulting in an unparalleled endorsement portfolio of blue-chip brands worth $100m a year for the tennis great,” Kurt Badenhausen, who is a senior editor at Forbes, said.

Japan’s Naomi Osaka (£30.7m), who was ranked 29th on the list, is ahead of another tennis player Serena Williams (£29.5m), as the world’s highest-earning female athlete.

They are the only women on the list.

Tyson Fury gives reason he will knock Anthony Joshua out in 3rd round Joshua 1

British boxer, Tyson Fury, has said that he would knock out fellow countryman, Anthony Joshua, in the 3rd round because the 30-year-old has ‘no footwork’.

Fury also claimed that Joshua has been avoiding to fight him for 5 years.

DAILY POST recalls that Fury and Joshua are both on course for a heavyweight unification fight next year.

Fury knocked out American boxer, Deontay Wilder, in his last fight in Las Vegas last February.

Joshua also defeated Mexican-American boxer, Andy Ruiz Jr, in his last fight in Saudi Arabia last December.

“Anthony Joshua’s style is tailor-made for mine,” Fury told Redknapp’s Home Fixture on Sky Sports.

“He is strong and powerful, but he got no footwork.

“I have been offering to fight Anthony Joshua for the last five years, and it has not happened at all.

“I think I would knock him out in two or three rounds.”
