*LEKKI TOLL GATE MASSACRE, AN UNDEMOCRATIC AND BULLYING ACTIONS TO HUMANITY*

*Wednesday October 21, 2020.*

Abraham Lincoln define democracy as the government of the people by the people and for the people. It’s a system of government which gives room for certain privileges to citizens in which protest and agitations for citizens needs is fully endorsed.

Tuesday October 20, 2020 will forever be an unforgettable day in the history of Nigeria in Lagos State. A day which claims the lives of many patriotic heroes of democracy, youths who has taken it as their basic responsibilities to request for the betterment of their fatherland.

It’s no more news that protests has been in various places in the nation on the unconstitutional and barbaric actions of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), violent attack and harassment by police officers, rejection of Special Weapon Tactical Team (SWAT) as immediate replacement to SARS, bad governance in the country, among others.

It is part of the responsibility of Police Officers to guide and protect citizens during protests, but reverse is the case from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in which many of the officers open direct fires to peaceful protesters, which in turn provoked the peaceful protesters to disastrous actions in bid to protect themselves as the government as failed their duties to the citizens.

The worst of it occured late Tuesday night when officers of The Nigeria Army opens direct firing to protesters, shooting and taking precious lives, throwing homes in sorrow and bitterness, after the Lagos Concession Company (LCC) was reported to have disconnected Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the scenes.

This event is so disheartening as many questions which needed answers troops to my heart.

Why should the Nigeria Armed Forces be used for peaceful protesters?
Why was the CCTV cameras disconnected?
Why was electrical circuits to the scene interrupted at the moment which led to blackout?
Who ordered the disruptions of the devices?
Why is the president not addressing the state of things in the country?

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Nigeria as it stands isn’t operating a military system of government, but a democracy system of government, which gives room for citizens demands to their basic rights.

I commiserate with the family of those who died as hero of democracy last night. May God ease the mind of their families and loved ones.

I commend the Nigeria youths who has stood gallantly to defend and request for their rights. Freedom is not given to the oppressed by oppressors at freewill, until it is requested. Let’s agitate for our rights in solidarity, to secure our future and fatherland from been ruined.

I’ll implore the government to see to the needs of the youths as bonafide citizens of the nation, and allow them for their rightful protests, as it stands as an avenue to speak their voices to the hearing of the government.
