Meeting your partner’s parents is not only an important milestone in an intimate relationship but also a nerve-wracking experience.

It is that time when first impressions do really matter, and you only got one chance to make a good one.

1. Go bearing a gift

It doesn’t matter if it’s the middle of the month and you’re broke, or you are on a super tight budget.

Save up and buy them something nice. Whether they like it or not, your efforts will be noticed and appreciated.

The trick here is to go for something the mother would like and present it directly to her. You will earn bonus points.

2. Keep your phone off the table

Nothing screams ‘Rude’ louder than your phone ringing right in the middle of a conversation or meal with your partner’s family. It is a definite no-no.

In fact, they will interpret it as you don’t value their company. Just turn it off.

3.Dress appropriately

Don’t show up in a pair of khaki shorts and sandals; you’re not going for a road trip.

Whether you choose to go for a casual or official outfit, keep it simple, appropriate and comfortable.

Ladies, this is where you go slow on the makeup.

4.Have kind words on your lips

Being appropriately nice and generous with compliments throughout your stay will also earn you points.

Whether you compliment the parents’ outfits (even if you don’t like them), their home or how delicious the food is, just keep them coming.

5. Offer to help

This tip is for ladies.

Offering to clean up after a meal shows you are a nice well-grounded person with good manners.

It’s also a good way to keep busy and calm your nerves. Just be genuine and sincere about it.
