It has been reported by Katsina Post that no fewer than five Primary school pupils were rushed to a primary health care centre in Makurda, Rimi Local government in the early hours of Monday after taking their meal being served to them in school.
According to our sources, the pupils complained of stomachache immediately after taking the meal which prompted the school to stopped the sharing of the food and quickly retrieved the remnants from the other pupils. The pupils who complained of the stomachache were then quickly rushed to the nearby health facility and they were all treated.
Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Ministry of Education, Salisu Kerau confirmed the incidence to Katsina Post but added that the situation was brought under control and the children have since resumed school. According to Kerau, the food vendors who supplied food to the school were also notified about the problem and they were enjoined to continue to observe best hygienic practice.
In other news, another case involving pupils caused an uproar after an angry landlord locked young students inside the school building over failure to pay rent. The landlord of the facility was said to have locked the school’s main gate due to non-payment of January rent amounting to Sh150,000, leaving the pupils locked inside for days. According to the parents, the landlord padlocked the gate of the day and boarding primary school.
“He came on Friday locked us in and left. Luckily the boarding section had enough food supply. I owe him January rent. I decided to stay with the children,” the head teacher Ms Mshenga Kisasa told Nation. The school has been operational for over 10 years with a population of over 200 pupils. Only 45 are boarders.
“We have always had problems with the landlord. He keeps harassing us especially whenever we fail to pay rent by 10th of every month, he usually storms the school with a padlock threatening to close down the school. I have tried talking to him but my efforts have failed,” Ms Kisasa said.
