Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on midfielder Scott McTominay after his performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, adding that the youngster is improving in every game he plays.

The Scotsman played the entire game as United slumped to 1-0 defeat at the hands of Spanish La Liga side Barcelona on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old won the Man of the Match award after a commanding display against the best team in the La Liga.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer said: ‘Scott McTominay was fantastic. Every time he plays for us he is improving.

‘He’s a great athlete, wins his challenges and quick on his feet. He started settling us to be fair [after United went behind].’

McTominay has made 17 appearances for United this season, scoring once.

He is a product of United’s academy and made his Premier League when he came on as a substitute against Arsenal on the 7th of May, 2017.

His first Premier League start for the club was against Crystal Palace on the 21st of May, 2017.

Solskjaer will be hoping the youngster continues to improve and gives a good account of himself if he is given another chance against Barcelona in the second leg.

With the future of Ander Herrera in doubt, United may have just found an ideal replacement for the Spaniard.

Champions League: Man Utd’s new signing tests positive for COVID-19

Alex Telles has missed Manchester United’s last two matches after testing positive for COVID-19, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

After making his against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week, Telles was left out of the squad that drew 0-0 with Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend.

The defender was also absent as Solskjaer’s side crushed RB Leipzig 5-0 on Wednesday night and Solskjaer has revealed why.

He said: “Telles has tested positive for coronavirus. He’s been out for a few days. No symptoms, he’ll be fine, back soon.”

Telles becomes the second member of the first team to have tested positive, after Paul Pogba missed international duty in September having contracted the virus.

United’s next game is this Sunday against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

PSG vs Man Utd: Maguire, Cavani, Greenwood out of Champions League clash

The Manchester United squad have travelled to Paris without Edinson Cavani, Harry Maguire, Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly.

They will all miss their first Champions League group game against Paris Saint-Germain.

Maguire, Greenwood, Bailly and Lingard are injured, while Cavani is not fit enough to play.

Bruno Fernandes will skipper United in the absence of Maguire.

United manager Solskjaer said on Monday: “We hope the players won’t be away for too long. Edinson needs a few more days training before we can think about the weekend.
