According to reports, one Babatunde Olagesin is currently cooling his heels in police custody after he allegedly hacked his father, Taiwo Olagesin, to death with a cutlass. City Round learnt that a fight broke out between the father and son on Monday, May 6, in their residence in the Ijoko area of Ogun State.

 

 

It was gathered that the suspect had wanted to leave home for Oshodi, State, around 6am, but was prevented by his father, who insisted that he (son) would accompany him somewhere. It was learnt that Taiwo locked up the doors leading outside the premises to keep his son inside.

When it appeared he could not restrict his son, Taiwo reportedly brought out a cutlass to scare him. Undeterred by the weapon, Babatunde was said to have struggled to collect it from his father. In the process, he reportedly used the weapon to cut his father in the stomach.

It was also gathered that neigbours alerted the police from the Agbado division to the incident and Babatunde was arrested. A police source disclosed to City Round that the suspect in his statement claimed to have killed his father by accident, adding that the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The source said, “The boy had a misunderstanding with his father. He said he wanted to go to Oshodi to ‘hustle’ (make money), but his father said he needed to follow him somewhere. The suspect claimed that his father brought out a cutlass to scare him and locked the doors leading outside.

“They started struggling with each other to get hold of the cutlass. He claimed he did not know when the cutlass pierced his father’s stomach. Before people could separate them, the father had slumped and started bleeding. He gave up the ghost before he could get medical care at the hospital. The suspect was about 30 years old.”

The deceased’s neighbours approached by our correspondent declined comments on the incident, saying the matter was being investigated by the police. But a resident, who gave his name only as Seun, said the tragedy could have been averted if Babatunde’s mother was at home that day.

He said, “I was not around when the incident happened. It was when I returned from in the evening that I learnt about it. From what I learnt, he always had problems with his father. His mother who usually cautioned him was not at home on the day the incident happened. The father had asked him to follow him somewhere but he insisted that he was going to Oshodi to work, which led to a fight. He hacked his father to death with a cutlass.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the case would soon be charged to court. He said, “The suspect said he wanted to go somewhere but his father did not allow him. According to him, his father brought out a cutlass and while they were both trying to get hold of it, it mistakenly cut the man in the stomach.”

Looting spree in Osun, as hoodlums break into government, private property

Hoodlums in Osun State on Saturday, went berserk moving round some communities been breaking into government and private property looting valuables.
The hoodlums were brandishing different types of weapons including guns, cutlasses, axes, and clubs scaring away residents while the looting lasted.
The looting spree which commenced around 8 am was witnessed in Osogbo, the state capital, Ikirun, , Ilobu, and Iwo, where Local Government Secretariats and individuals homes were vandalised and looted.
Iwo, Olorunda, Irepodun local government Secretariats were vandalised and looted while there was no presence of security personnel, except for a few Military personnel, who were overwhelmed by the hoodlums.

In Osogbo, the hoodlums having looted the Olorunda local government Secretariat headed to Tuns International Farms along Ikirun road where the offices were vandalised before heading to the House of the Senate Spokesperson, Ajibola Basiri at the Government Reservation Area, Oke-Fia, vandalised the building and looted property within.
One of his aides who confirmed the incident, Adebayo Bello said the Senator’s wife, Habiba had to leave the building through the back door when the hoodlums arrived.
“It is unfortunate that the Senator’s wife, Habiba escaped from the house through the backdoor to avoid being attacked. The house was vandalised and many properties looted at the same time, the hoodlums perpetrated the looting for over an hour”, he said.
Also in Ikirun, the house of the lawmaker representing Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Afolabi Rasheed was also looted and vandalised.
One of his aides, Oladimeji Safiu said the looted motorcycles and Generating sets were just delivered and meant for an empowerment scheme for the constituents.
“I just recently took delivery of 27 motorcycles and 17 generating sets meant for empowerment for the people of the constituency. Unfortunately, all of it was looted and in addition, the hoodlums looted the house and carted away dress belonging to the lawmaker and his wife, as well as chairs, dining table freezers, and shoes among many other personal belongings”, he said.
In Ilobu, Irepodun local government headquarters, houses of the former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu state constituency at the House of Assembly, and that of the Council Chairman, Anthony Oyedeji were also looted.
Oyedeji, who confirmed the incident said he was informed of the impending attack and when he could not get help from the police, he had to evacuate his family from the house to avoid being killed.
He said the entire house was ransacked as even cooking and eating plates were looted.
“For me, I believe this is a coordinated, deliberate attack on APC members in and out of government. Since the wanton destruction and looting began, it was only targeted at APC members. Hon Lasun’s house was looted and many valuables carted away, the house of Chief Sola Akinwumi was vandalised and the APC Secretariat was also affected”, he said.

Other places reportedly attacked by the hoodlums include Osun APC State Secretariat, Governor Oyetola Campaign , and the constituency office of the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu/Osogbo/Olorunda federal constituency, Hon Bukola Oyewo all in Osogbo.
Also, the farm of Senator Adelere Oriolowo in Iwo and the house of Hon. Kamil Oyedele at Orolu was also attacked.
However, the state Government has re-imposed an indefinite 24-hour curfew on the state to tame the growing wanton destruction and looting of government and private property in the state.

Hoodlums invade Ibadan senator’s residence, cart away 300 motorcycles

Some hoodlums in Ibadan , the Oyo State capital, hiding under the # EndSARS protest , broke into the Oluyole Ibadan residence of the representative of the Oyo Central senatorial district in the National Assembly , Senator Teslim Folarin , located at Oluyole Estate , Ibadan , on Saturday .
It was gathered that the hoodlums shattered the entrance doors and windows of the politician carting away some of his personal effects worth millions of naira .
The serving Senator confirmed the incident on Fresh 105 .9 FM on Saturday during a telephone interview .
Folarin stated that no fewer than 300 motorcycles, deep freezers , and food items, which were meant for the empowerment of his constituents , were looted .
He said, “ I am relieved because no life was lost . ” He , however, did not confirm if the matter had been reported to the police or not.
When visited some youth who are loyal to the politician were seen around the property . They were unwilling to speak with our correspondent. However, some of them were seen threatening to deal with whoever dared to attack the residence againThe Police Public Relations Officer , Oyo State Command, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, who confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with our correspondent, said , “ The Divisional Police Officer , Oluyole , is fully aware of the development and the matter is being investigated.
“ We shall be able to give the detail on the circumstance surrounding the incident after the investigation has been concluded. ”
