The Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its extra-ordinary session, on Monday, presided over by Vice- Yemi Osinbajo approved N3.8billion for the execution of various development projects within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Minister of FCT, Malam Muhammed Bello, who announced this at the end of the meeting at the Villa, Abuja, said the approved projects included the construction of of Science, Zuba, at N701 million, NAN reports.

He disclosed that N1.9 billion of the amount was approved for the rehabilitation of the failed walk ways within the Wuse District of the FCT with a completion period of 12 months.

He said that the council approved N189 million for the preparation of the Electricity Master Plan for phase IV of the FCT with a completion period of 10 months.

According to him, already the phases I, II and III have their own master plans.

“The third contract is the design of infrastructure for what we call institution and research district which is in phase III of the Federal Capital City at the cost of N197 million.

“The fourth is engineering design of infrastructure for sectors G and H in Phase III of the Federal Capital City awarded at the cost of N118.575 million with a completion period of six months.

“The fifth is for the design of inter-septic sewage line for the federal capital city in the total sum of N125 million.

“The next one is the contract for the construction of the School of Science at the permanent site of the FCT College of Zuba at the cost of N701 million with a completion period of 42 weeks.

“The other contract is the final engineering design of infrastructure and production of tender documents for Dawaki District in the sum of N259 million with a six-month completion period,’’ he added.

The minister also disclosed that the council approved N174 million contract for engineering and infrastructure design for a 41km Nyanya-Guruku-Mpape road.

According to Bello, the road will burst out at the Outer Northern Express Way called Murtala Mohammed Expressway, with the completion period of six months.

“That is the expressway from the city that goes right through to Zuba.

“Ultimately that road is going to give another access entry point into the city and also will open up that section of the city for development,’’ he said.

The minister revealed that the council also approved N190 million for the supply and installation of a city scanner machine for the Maitama District Hospital with a delivery period of eight weeks, while 179 million was approved for engineering infrastructure for Kabusa District.

Federal Polytechnic witnessed a grandeur matriculation ceremony yesterday, 21st February, 2020. At the event, the invoked the spirit of festivity as staff and students joined in euphoric mood.

In a customary practice of the school, Federal Polytechnic Ede rounded up her annual orientation programs to newly-admitted students with the Matriculation Ceremony. The event which took place on Friday was the 26th edition since the inception of the school.

Foremost, the matriculants marched into the School Pavilion which paid host to the event. The students were led in by Mrs. E. I. Babatope.

Thereafter, the moderator, Mr. Lawal, the School’s P.R.O. gave a welcome speech to honour parents and guardians that graced the occasion for their presence. During his speech, the SUL representatives led by Comr. Ajibade Quazeem entered the frame with an Aluta chorus. Some minutes later, the academic and non academic staff joined, ably led by the Rector, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole.

At this juncture, the moderator announced the program is being aired live on; Knowledge, Skills and Character Radio (98.1 FM), a new feat for the school. Recitation of the national and school anthems followed suit.

A special parade was displayed by Cadet Officers to welcome the Rector and his crew to the seat. Then, the amiable Rector declared the event open. All Deans were called to present matriculants from their faculties to affirm the matriculation oath. And the Polytechnic lawyer, Barr. N. J. O. Muhammad alongside Barr. Adeyombo was summoned to administer the matriculation oath to the students as the students pronounced after her.

The Rector gave his speech after another special parade led by Cadet Officer Michael Joseph. While delivering his lecture, he welcomed the freshers to the citadel of learning.

The Don said they should count themselves fortunate to have gained admission into the institution as “many are called but few are chosen”.

The Rector enjoined the students to endeavour to live in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Polytechnic.

He urged the students to tolerate each other and live peacefully among themselves.

The Rector urged the students to shun anti-social activities such as cultism, examination malpractice, and use of hard drugs. He advised them to study diligently towards achieving excellence.

He informed the audience of the latest development in the school as regards the addition of new departments.

Furthermore, he emphasised that there are two campuses; South and North campuses. He said provision has been made to convey students to South Campus. He also laid emphasis on extracurricular activities such as sports and entrepreneural courses within the campus referencing that; “all works and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

To cap it all, he reiterated that Students should stay away from social vices and any suspicion to school authority. He implored the fresh students to shun cultism which may jeopardize their studentship and lead to their immediate expulsion. ”On no account should any student take law into his hands. Ignorance of law is not an excuse”, he said.

Finally, he encouraged students to be security-conscious and to make their grievances known through H.O.Ds and Deans.

Presentation of scholarship awards to best outstanding Students follows with golden handshake from the Rector. While the recitation of the school and national anthems served as a curtain-drawer.
