Golden Eaglets whip Hungary as FIFA Under-17 World Cup begins Golden Eaglets 300x225

Five-times champions Nigeria swept past Hungary 4-2 in the opening match of the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup finals in Brazil on Saturday.
The Eaglets scored three goals in six second half minutes, and they were just a reward for their persistence and determination.
Just like what happened when both teams last met at the championship — the inaugural edition in China 34 years ago — Hungary drew the first blood.
Inside the first three minutes, Gyorgy Komaromi took full advantage of poor defensive organisation to slot past goalkeeper Daniel Jinadu.
The Eaglets created chance after chance and eventually drew level when team captain Samson Tijani sent goalkeeper Kristjan Hegyi the wrong way from the penalty kick spot.
That was after Wisdom Ubani had been upended in the box.
Tijani’s equaliser was Nigeria’s 150th goal in the history of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Yet, the Europeans would again go into the lead, when Samuel Major placed the ball clinically beyond Jinadu from a counter-attack as the Nigerian defence was again caught napping.
Still unruffled, the Eaglets continued to launch onslaught after onslaught, but were undone by a combination of short passes, hyper-ventilation and wayward shooting.
On resumption of the second half at the Estadio Olimpico in Goiania, the Eaglets took full control, dictating the pace and creating goalscoring opportunities.
But poor finishing by Ubani, Tijani, Ibrahim Sa’id and Olakunle Olusegun delayed the turn-around.
The introduction of Akinkunmi Amoo and Ibrahim Jabaar invigorated the Nigerian side, and in the 79th minute, defender Usman Ibrahim scored.
He was on the alert to head the ball into the net from a corner kick by Sa’id as goalkeeper Hegyi made a poor job of coming out to claim the ball.
Two minutes later, it was 3-2 after Jabaar’s dazzling run ended with a pullout from the left, which defender Oluwatimilehin Adeniyi headed past Hegyi even as Donat Orosz tried in vain to stop the contact.
Tijani made the scoreline safe for a hardworking Nigeria side in the 85th minute.
His angled free-kick from 23 yards out was deflected by the head of Botond Balogh to wrong-foot Hegyi.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that in the other match of the opening day, host nation Brazil pounded Canada 4-1 in Brasilia.
Nigeria will go up against Ecuador in their next match on Tuesday at the same venue.
Victory is certain to take the Eaglets to the Round of 16, ahead of their final Group B encounter with Australia

Chelsea close to signing Isco, others.

Chelsea have made a bid of £44.4 million for Real Madrid midfielder, Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez and Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is said to be happy with the proposal and is considering it.
Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Isco, 27, which would pave the way for the Spanish giants to make a move for Tottenham’s 27-year-old midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Does Chelsea need another midfielder?
Isco’s coming to Chelsea, a world Class player who can play in midfield and on the wing. A creator which Chelsea currently desperately needs this season. Comes at half the price of Crystal Palace’s £80 million value for Zaha. Low risk signing and more depth in the squad.
In fact, he could be exactly what they need. This team currently lacks creativity and forward thinking and Isco can give Chelsea that. Although some could have doubts signing him because of how Morata didn’t cope with this league
Isco’s versatility allows him to play in a 3-4-3 behind Tammy Abraham, with Marcus Alonso or Azpilicuieta overlapping him to provide support. A spot in a 4-3-3 is also possible, a creative forward CM ahead of two of Kante/Kovacic/Jorginho
From all we know, these four are going out
-Pedro (MLS)
-Giroud (Inter)
-Alonso (Inter/Sevilla/Betis)
-Drinkwater
Bruce Buck has made it pretty clear Chelsea FC will sign replacements
-Isco (Chelsea bid 44 million)
-Werner (Liverpool out of the way now)
-Ake (40 million buyback)
-Zaha (some cash + Batsshuayi)
Chelsea have also told Dortmund they will pay £100m+ in a bid for Jadon Sancho.
Potential for similar deal to Pulisic. Sign in January then loan back until the summer.
Chelsea are increasingly confident of landing Jadon Sancho ahead of Manchester United, either in January or next summer, as Chelsea offer more possibility of playing Champions League football.
The third player to be strongly linked to a move to Chelsea since the transfer ban was lifted is Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.
Now it’s almost impossible to get him next month. But… in the summer?
With these new possible signings, the relatively youthful Chelsea side are looking bright and have the potential to be great for years to come

Six players have been nominated for October’s Premier League Player of the Month 20190921 014554

Six players have been nominated for October’s Premier League Player of the Month.

Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan, Chelsea winger Willian and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy are on the six-man shortlist, following an impressive one-month period.

Willian was impressive for Chelsea through the month, where he scored once and assisted twice as Chelsea won all their three matches.

He scored the fourth in their 4-2 win over Burnley at Turf Moor and assisted one of Christian Pulisic’s three goals.

His exploits at the Turf Moor came after another impressive game at Southampton, where he assisted Mason Mount’s goal.

Gundogan has been in good form too for the defending champions, as they kept up the pace with League leaders Liverpool in the Premier League.

Vardy too has been sensational for surprise package Leicester City, who are currently third behind City and Liverpool.

The striker is among Leicester’s driving force and scored a stunning hattrick last week against Southampton.

Here is the full list of nominees.

  • Jack Grealish
  • Ilkay Gundogan
  • Dean Henderson
  • Youri Tielemans

The winner announced next Friday 8 November
