The Media Organisation (BMO) has carpeted former Vice and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for not knowing the difference between a visa ban and a visa restriction.

BMO said that Nigerians are only restricted from immigration visa and that other visa categories are still available to Nigerians who qualify for them.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, the group said rather than gleefully celebrate the visa restrictions, Atiku should be remorseful that his party, the PDP, is responsible for this inconvenience caused Nigerians.

“The United States (US) visa restriction, engendered by the US Department of Homeland Security, is symbolic; to show security concern over two issues. One is the printing of the Nigerian passport, and the other is the storage of and other vital information on the holders of the Passport.

“Now, these are crucial matters in a world where information sharing is of the utmost essence in the face of security challenges everywhere. The Nigerian passport was being printed by a company in Malaysia before the PDP gave it out to an Irish company.”

BMO said the PDP government then in power signed a double-faced contract, which was renewed just two weeks before handing over in 2015.

“In one breath, the contract was to last for four years, but in another breath, it was agreed that the said contract would not lapse until the company has printed 10 million copies of the travel document.

“As we speak, only 3million copies of the Nigerian passport has been printed by this company. This and the huge volume of vital information being held by this Irish company has created a huge security nightmare for concerned security agencies.”

According to the BMO, the International Criminal Police Organization commonly known as INTERPOL had actually reported that was not sharing information.

“So, Nigerians can see what problems the PDP has brought upon the country.

“In an effort to redress the situation, President Buhari gave a directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to domicile the printing of the nation’s passport at the Security Printing and Minting Corporation.

“Unfortunately, this directive could not be executed because of legal issues raised by the Irish company contracted by the PDP government.

“No doubt the embarrassing inclusion of Nigeria in the travel restriction by the US is one of the prices we have to pay for the crimes of past PDP governments and their proclivity to shoddy handling of sensitive matters of state while they wallow in money laundering and other financial crimes,” the statement added.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, yesterday, urged Nigerians to support the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, back to power in 2023 to restore good governance, including infrastructural development in the country.
Okowa who stated this at a thanksgiving service, said the PDP would do everything possible with the support of Nigerians to win the 2023 .
He said the party was working hard to win more states in the country as a precursor to getting back control of the presidency which it lost in 2015.
The governor said with the abysmal performance of the All Progressives Congress, APC, led Federal Government, Nigerians were already convinced on the imperative of voting back PDP to power in 2023.
Thanking leaders, youths and women for their support for the party since inception, Okowa said with such encouragement, PDP would take over the Federal Government in 2023.
He said: “We have come here to give thanks to God because whatever we achieve in life is not the work of any man. Man can try but whatever we do is by the will of God that we triumph and it is only normal that we return all the glory to God.

“We must learn to work with everybody in the state irrespective of their tribe because everyone matters in building a political party.
“Before the last general election, we assured our members in the state that we will organise free, fair and credible primaries for all aspirants.
“At the end of all the primaries, our party members realised that we meant business when we said we will organise credible primaries for aspirants because some aspirants close to me lost while some that are not close to me also won.”
He solicited support for the party to succeed and urged all political appointees to support their wards to hold meetings.

Kwara by-election: Tribunal sacks APC lawmaker, declares PDP winner

The Kwara State House of Assembly Rerun Petition Tribunal , on Monday , nullified the victory of Adam Rufai of the All Progressives Congress in the by - for Patigi Constituency .
The tribunal subsequently declared Salihu Mohammed Gada of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the by -election held on March 14 , 2020 .
However, the Kwara State chapter of APC rejected the judgment of the tribunal which declared the candidate of PDP the winner of the recent Patigi by -election .
The seat became vacant when Rufai ’s brother , Saidu Ahmed , died in December 2019 after a brief illness .
It explained that the judgment was based on the difference between ‘ Adam ’ and ‘Adama ’ on the certificate of the candidate of the APC .
Kwara APC made the complaint in a press statement by its Publicity Secretary , Folaranmi Aro , on Monday .
The statement was titled , ‘ APC rejects , to appeal Tribunal ’ s judgment on Patigi … Says judgment a judicial subversion of people ’s mandate’.
Aro complained that PDP never called any witness from the examination body to substantiate its claim that APC candidate was not the owner of the certificate he tendered for his election .Part of the statement read, “ The tribunal did not deny that we won the election overwhelmingly . It instead hid under a feeble excuse that the names of our candidate on the two certificates he presented to the electoral body are slightly different from each other to award our mandate to the opposition .
“ It is a sad day for democracy as the judgment is a slap on thousands of the electorate who stood in the sun to make their choices .
“ This judgment is a violent attack on the position of the Supreme Court in many established cases where an alphabet was either omitted or added to a candidate ’ s name. We are definitely going to appeal the judgment because it signals danger for our democracy and amounted to stealing the mandate of the people . The judgment is a judicial subversion of the mandate of the people . ”
Meanwhile, a former senate , Bukola Saraki , has congratulated Yahaya over the judgment .
The former Kwara State governor tweeted , “ A big congrats to the candidate of our party @OfficialPDPNig for the State Assembly by -election held in Patigi , Kwara State on 14 th March, 2020 . Hon . Salihu Muhammad Yahaya has just been declared the winner by a tribunal. I also congratulate all our stakeholders for their steadfastness .
