United State Federal agents have nabbed 24 individuals for their involvement in a large-scale fraud and money laundering.

13 Nigerians are part of the gang.

The scam targeted citizens, corporations, and financial institutions throughout the United States.

It involved Email Compromise schemes, romance fraud scams, and retirement account scams, among others.

A statement by the US Department of Justice noted that affected persons and companies lost more than $30 million.

U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak., said: “Fraud schemes, like the ones perpetrated and facilitated by these defendants, inflict considerable losses on citizens, companies, and the financial system.”

Chris Hacker, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, said: “There is no way we can make the victims of these schemes, many who have lost their life savings, whole again. Hopefully the arrests and pending prosecutions will at least give them solace that someone is being held accountable for their losses.”

Steven R. Baisel, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service, Atlanta Field Offic assured that the U.S. SS will continue to collaborate with the U.S. Attorney’s and others to America.

Persons charged with money laundering are Blessing Oluwatimilehin Ojo, Afeez Olaide Adeniran, Matthan Bolaji Ibidapo, Obinna Nwosu, Benjamin Ibukunoluwa Oye, Christopher Akinwande Awonuga.

Others are Ahamefule Aso Odus, Paul Chinonso Anyanwu, Chineda Obilom Nwakadu, Chukwukadibia Ikechukwu Nnadozie, Uchechi Chidimma Odus, John Ifeoluwa Onimole, Oluwafunmilade Onamuti.

The statement added that Afeez Olaide Adeniran and Blessing Ojo are also charged with wire fraud.

Adeniran allegedly defrauded a homebuyer of $40,000 intended for a real estate transaction.

Ojo scammed a media company in of $89,140 to a bank account controlled by one of the defendants.

The woman who identified herself as Kafayat Alake, jumped into the river around Gbodofon area, Gbongan-Ibadan road, Osogbo, as a result of hunger.

Residents of the area who said that the strange movement of the woman on the bridge drew their attention before she eventually jumped into the river.

According eyewitness, the woman, who dressed in blue gown, was trekking and got to the middle of the bridge, climbed the rear and jumped off the bridge.
“It happened so fast that we could not stop her.

However, when she jumped, people called for help, prompting me to dive in and rescued her,” David Johnson explained.

“We were somewhere around that place when we saw the woman jumped from the bridge. We thought she was either pushed or fell over by mistake. While others are calling for help, I  had to jump into the river and rescue her.”

When reporters got to the scene, the woman was sitting down, looking dejected by the river bank.
Speaking with newsmen, the woman said she hails from Alapaaro, Isale Osun, Osogbo, saying she couldn’t cater for the upkeep of her three children due to financial incapability, hence her action.

“My husband lives in Lagos after about thirteen years of divorce. He abandoned the three children with me.

She was rushed to the hospital by the Osun Ambulance.

The Enugu State Ministry of Health on Monday said that the suspected coronavirus patient has been confirmed negative to the novel virus .
A statement by the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Health , Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi , said that the suspect ’s specimen sent to IRUA Specialist Hospital for investigation tested negative .
Agujiobi said , “the Enugu State Ministry of Health hereby informs the general public that we have received the result of the investigation sent to IRUA Specialist Hospital which is further corroborated by Nigerian Center for Disease Control ( NCDC) as negative .
“We hereby enjoin the general public to go about their normal , however , to remain alert and vigilant , observing basic personal health hygiene, ” he said .
Meanwhile , the state government said it has released N 20 million emergency funds to contain the scourge and other health challenges.
It said the money was released to the management of the State Isolation Center to ensure that the facilities are optimally ready to deal with the situation and any other emergency that may arise forthwith.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information , Chidi Aroh , stated that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has provided the required leadership and logistic support to ensure that the State Ministry of Health and the Emergency Operation Center are functioning at optimal level and fully ready to deal with any emergency in the state .
Aroh added that the state government has also ensured that the suspected patient , who had been declared negative is very stable in the isolation center and receiving the best available medical treatment .

The information commissioner disclosed that the state government in line with routine protocol had informed the Center for Disease Control ( NCDC) and necessary samples collected and sent to IRUA Specialist Hospital in Edo State for investigation , saying : “We await the results of the investigation soon ”.
While assuring the public that all the relevant agencies and institutions in the state are fully activated and very ready to respond to any issue arising from the Corona Virus – COVID 19 or any other health emergency , the state government maintained that “there is absolutely no reason to panic”.
“The good people of Enugu State are further encouraged to ensure the highest level of personal hygiene including the regular washing of their hands and use of sanitizers in public places ”, he said .
