COVID-19: Osun patient stable, says govt

The government said medical personnel was managing the case professionally and no severe symptoms had been traced to the patient.

Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi spoke yesterday after a meeting of the State Government Technical Committee on COVID-19, at the State Specialist Hospital in Asubiaro, Osogbo.

He noted that the patient eased the job of medical personnel as he surrendered himself for treatment even before his health status was confirmed.

Alabi said his action assisted the state to implement its guiding principles against the disease. He added that the government equipped and strengthened the isolation centre at the Specialist Hospital to handle suspected or confirmed cases.

He said: “Yesterday, the governor confirmed the index case of Coronavirus, and so we are being proactive in combating the menace. We are working to strengthen our protocol and ensure that our guiding principles are tailored towards achieving the objectives.

“The patient is responding to treatment and he is stable. We have done the needful; he has been isolated for treatment.”

Commissioner for Health Dr. Rafiu Isamotu said medical personnel had been urged to work harder to curtail the spread. He noted the hospital was restructured for emergency cases; saying cold cases would be treated in other health facilities.

He said: “The Isolation Centre is secured. Presently, we are not attending to cold cases but emergencies to show the seriousness we attach to the pandemic. We have also warned people to stay off the hospital.

“The government has set up a task force to man the borders and conduct preliminary screening. We have also begun massive sensitisation against the pandemic in all nooks and crannies of the state, while residents are warned to maintain social distance.”
